Many good things often start with failure. Our Rowanberry Eau-de-Vie is no exception. In filtering our Rowanberry Schnapps, we discovered that a significant proportion of the it was too “cloudy” to bottle.
We separated out the cloudier part of the liquor from the rowan and left it to wait for good idea. Once we got our awesome copper still working, we added more fresh rowanberries to the accumulated brew and distilled it through. We were happy with the result and got a lot of good feedback from experienced bartenders – a nice clear drink with a sharp bitter character.
This is the second drink made from rowanberries at Põhjaka Distillery. It’s crisp and sharp enough to start a dinner or to flavour a good cocktail, as it is flavoured with a large amount of rowan. Our superb copper distiller smoothes out the rye vodka and adds the dryness and flavour of a great rowan.
Serve lightly chilled from a shot glass.
